Hoʻolauleʻa 2022

Kamehameha Schools Hoʻolauleʻa 2022

Kamehameha Schools Kapālama has announced that the 97th Hoʻolauleʻa will be virtual once again.

The virtual event will take place on Saturday, February 19th along with live-streamed entertainment. This yearʻs theme is “E ʻonipaʻa e like me ke kumu o ka lāʻau ʻulu”, which means Be firmly anchored like the trunk of the ʻulu tree.

The KS Hoʻolauleʻa Instagram account expands on this theme saying, “This yearʻs theme is a reminder for all of us to hold onto our Hawaiian culture so we will remain strong like the trunk of an ʻulu tree that remains in the ground even if the winds blow down itʻs branches…The COVID-19 pandemic has blown down our branches with hurricane winds and yet, our trunk, our lāhui, has remained anchored in our culture. The ʻulu tree is our symbol of resilience, perseverance, and security.”

This yearʻs host class is the class of 2024, who according to an email sent out earlier this week, has been busy planning the details of this yearʻs event. Some foods and activities available are KS famous brownies, a plant sale, haku lei making, and cooking demonstrations.

Apparel has also now been launched and is available at https://www.kskhoolauleamerch.com/. Short sleeves, long sleeves, tank tops, and hoodies that follow this yearʻs ʻulu theme are sold on the website.
