Giving Back Through Faith

KAPĀLAMA- On October 24, 2018, the senior class of 2019 joined together in an effort to give back to our school community in the annual Senior Service day. There were many different tasks, whether it was cleaning up the mālā at the Elementary campus to washing all of the cars in the school fleet, everyone did their part in giving back. For a small bunch of seniors, it was about more than just giving back, but coming full circle.

For seniors Reece Okumura, Colt Almodova, Aslan Cook, and Miranda Burigsay, this senior service day was a unique experience. Kahu Ann Young from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Elementary campus had invited these four alumni of the 2011-2012 Chapel team to give back to the Elementary School students. Their goal was to plan a chapel, along with other Chapel Team alumni, Chelsey Sagon and Zachary Lorenzo, which will take place at the chapel on October 31st.

When asked about his experience, Colt Almodova replied, “This was an amazing experience. I really appreciated being able to help Kahu Ann, a person who has helped me so much, and just being back at Elementary and doing ʻChapel team thingsʻ brought back so many memories.”

This is the first time a previous Chapel Team has planned a Chapel service for the Elementary.
