Will the Bathrooms Ever be Renovated

The two small student bathrooms located in Kekūanaoʻa.

As the school year has progressed, students have most definitely seen the many improvements made to our campus. From the construction of the many solar-powered benches students cannot only have a shaded table but also have charging ports readily available while sitting down for their laptops or phones. To the reopening of the newly renovated Lunalilo dormitory in the lower campus offering another space to comfortably house boarding students.

More often than not Kamehameha underclassmen and upperclassmen who find themselves in the lower campus have seen the bathrooms. From the tiny bathrooms next to the SSC to the large hallways of stalls in Pāki.The bathrooms feature old and rickety stall doors the lack of working toilets even the floors, sometimes flooded by a leaking toilet, not to mention the lack of privacy for the boyʻ’s bathrooms.. Presumably, the lower campus bathrooms have been the way they are for more than a decade, being degraded over time and use. Seeing that the majority of the upper campus bathrooms are kept in better condition than the ones in the lower area of campus, I donʻt see why the school has not yet put in the effort into renovating the bathrooms in the past.

About the Contributor
Paul Aguzar-Taitague
Aloha kākou! My name is Paul and I get to spend my first year with Ka Mōʻī as a sophomore. I am a boarder from Hanamāʻulu, Kauaʻi and I usually spend my free time in my dorm here while iʻm at school. In the dorms, I usually talk story with my friends, check out to go to the courts in front of Kapuaiwa, and nap throughout the day. Though back at home I usually just stay inside, go out to paddle during the summer, and spend time with my family and friends. Here in school though I just spend my free period in the band room, chilling in the AC, doing homework, or just relaxing before my next class. Some things I enjoy are baking, writing, listening to music, and playing video games. Pretty basic I know. Even if I donʻt pursue English I hope to write my whole life after high school, dreaming to write books or poetry. I dream of owning a bakery and settling down in life, writing in my free time. I believe that my time working with Ka Mōʻi will help better my skills as a writer, well, more of my informative writing so to speak.
