Beijing Olympics: 2022

While not everyone is a sports junkie, there’s something about the Olympics that brings athletic and non-athletic people together. The Winter Olympics started last week Friday, Feb. 4, and is being hosted by Beijing until Feb. 20, 2022. So far Team USA has gained 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. 

This year’s figure skating podium is causing a lot of talk amongst the fans. One of the most notable conversations being Nathan Chen, a Team USA figure skater, who won gold last night. He beat Japan’s cherished Yuzuru Hanyu, also known as the “Ice Prince,” causing an uprising in Hanyu fans inside and beyond Japan. On the Russian team, 15 year old Kamila Valiveya tested positive for a banned heart drug and is now facing the possibility of having her medal revoked due to doping. 

Team USA’s Chloe Kim has also secured a gold medal for America. She won gold in snowboarding that showed off her half-pipe skills, placing her not only at the top of the podium but also at the top of women’s half-pipe history.
